Lots of things have happened this month, but I’ve been too busy doing them to have time to post about them. Let’s start with the twentieth-anniversary issue of Not One of Us. We mailed most of the copies yesterday, so folks should start receiving them in a week or so. Here’s the table of contents of Not One of Us #36:

Ogygia (poem), by Sonya Taaffe
Skellig, by Tyree Campbell
The Worm in the Core (poem), by Elizabeth Barrette
Lemon Filled, by Patricia Russo
The Visitor (poem), by Karen R. Porter
Venefica, by Sonya Taaffe
Fishing Line, Feathers and Waffles, by Jennifer Rachel Baumer
Visions of Space (poem), by K.S. Hardy
The American Dream (poem), by Kent Kruse
That Sudden Stop, by Terry Black
Emilia and Iago (poem), by JoSelle Vanderhooft
A Remedy for Sorrow, by Erzebet YellowBoy
Of Chasing After Yesterdays (poem), by Sonya Taaffe
Art: HE Fassl (cover), Augie Wiedemann, John Stanton

Earlier this month, I flew down to Raleigh to present a conference paper, “Governments and Gambling: The Public’s Views in Conflict,” with long-time friend Tina Reigel. Some of you may know her as the former associate editor of Not One of Us. I hadn’t seen Tina for six years, so we went out to dinner the night before the presentation (she lives in Durham) and hung out for a while afterwards.

This past Thursday, my boss and I went to DC where he presented the findings of our survey about pandemic flu before a committee of the Institute of Medicine. That was the culmination of several weeks of hard work, but it was well worth the effort. Our press release about the survey got tons of pick-up, too.

And then last night I attended a wonderful Halloween Party at [livejournal.com profile] sovay’s parents’ house. Lots of people took pictures, so I’m sure someone will post the evidence soon. This is the first time in twenty years that I’ve been to a party any time near my Halloween birthday, so it felt like a present. Great company and great fun. Wait until you see some of the costumes and the many masterfully-carved Jack O’Lanterns.

Happy Halloween to all.
